The Phantom Heresy: How the Left Invents Monsters to Avoid the Mirror

“The Left invents monsters like "Dark Enlightenment" to avoid debating men. They call the desire for order "Fascism" and the love of country "Nationalism." This is Nominalism: the use of words as weapons to silence the truth. We defend the Light, not their imagined Dark.”
In the medieval universities, there was a great battle over the nature of names. The Realists believed that names pointed to real things. The Nominalists believed that names were just labels we invented to organize power.
Today, the Nominalists are in charge of our political vocabulary.
We see this in the sudden emergence of terms like "Dark Enlightenment" or "Christian Nationalism" or "Semi-Fascism." These labels are not used to describe reality. They are used to conjure monsters. They are linguistic weapons designed to pathologize normal political disagreement.
The Anatomy of the Smear
There is a glaring contradiction in the current political narrative. The Left accuses the American Right -- represented by figures like Donald Trump and the populist movement -- of being agents of the "Dark Enlightenment."
Let us look at the definitions. The "Dark Enlightenment" (or Neoreaction) is a niche, extremely online philosophy that explicitly rejects democracy. It favors rule by a cognitive elite or a CEO-Monarch. It is deeply suspicious of the masses.
Now look at the American Right. It is fundamentally populist. It champions the forgotten man. It rallies in stadiums. It demands more voice for the people against the administrative state.
To call a populist movement "Dark Enlightenment" is historically illiterate. It is like calling a vegetarian a carnivore because you dislike both.
Why does the cultural elite do this? Because they cannot afford to debate the actual arguments of their opponents. If they admitted that the Right wants secure borders, safe streets, and a stable economy, they would have to argue against those things on the merits. It is much easier to label the opponent as a "Dark" monster who wants to enslave humanity. It shuts down the debate before it begins.
The Pathologizing of Normality
This tactic reveals a deep insecurity in the modern Progressive mind.
The Progressive believes that history has a right side. They believe they are the agents of Light, Progress, and Empathy. Therefore, anyone who disagrees with them cannot simply be wrong. They must be evil. They must be motivated by a dark, hidden philosophy.
So, when a father stands up at a school board meeting and says that he does not want his child taught that gender is a social construct, the Progressive cannot hear a concerned parent. They must hear a Christian Nationalist. They must hear a Fascist.
When a citizen says that he wants his country to have a border, the Progressive cannot hear a desire for the rule of law. They must hear White Supremacy.
By inventing these scary labels, the elite avoids facing the reality that millions of normal, decent people simply disagree with their vision of the world. It allows them to dismiss half the country as patients needing therapy or criminals needing containment, rather than citizens needing representation.
The Defense of the Light
We must not fall into the trap of defending against these made-up labels.
If we spend our time proving we are not "Dark Enlightenment" thinkers, we have already lost. We have allowed the accuser to set the terms of the trial.
Instead, we should flip the script. We should ask what is "Dark" about believing in the family. We should ask what is "Dark" about believing that a nation should protect its own citizens. We should ask what is "Dark" about believing that men and women are biologically distinct.
These are not dark ideas. These are the foundational lights of Western civilization. They are the truths that built the cathedrals, the universities, and the bills of rights.
The irony is that the true darkness comes from the side that denies reality. It is the darkness of a philosophy that mutilates children in the name of care. It is the darkness of a worldview that denies the image of God in the unborn. It is the darkness of a state that seeks to replace God.
Conclusion: The Freedom of Naming
We must reclaim the power of naming. We must refuse to let the Nominalists define us.
When they call us "Dark," we must point to the Light of reason and revelation. When they call us "Fascists," we must point to the Liberty of the children of God. When they call us "Nationalists," we must point to the virtue of Patriotism.
The label is a lie. The populist movement is not a philosopher-king of the Dark Enlightenment. It is a blunt instrument of a people tired of being ignored. To see grand conspiracies where there is only a demand for basic order is the mark of a political class that has lost touch with reality. We do not need to defend ourselves against their ghosts. We simply need to turn on the lights.
